RELEASE NOTES - TIND 28.0.0
We are pleased to announce TIND release 28.0.0.
The first TIND update of 2026 will contain some significant improvements to system management, including a highly requested orphaned records view and a granular user anonymiser service that you can read more about below.
We are also excited to tease the upcoming updates in production that will be coming your way early in the new year:
As we close out 2025, we want to express our gratitude for all the interactions, feedback, and exciting collaborative projects we have been part of this year. While we will take a short break now, we will be back in action very soon.
In January, we are planning a new round of the successful webinar “Ask the Expert,” where you can ask our team about anything and everything you have always wondered about. In February, we invite you to meet us to discuss our roadmap plans, which will of course include smart features and AI in TIND.
Additionally, we continue to expand both our customer base and our team, with several open positions currently available, so check out our LinkedIn for details on both.
An extra large welcome cheer to all our new TIND friends, and to absolutely everyone, have a peaceful and happy Holiday
The 28.0.0 release schedule is as follows:
> Release 28.0.0 Sandbox & Early Release Instances
> Release 28.0.0 to all TIND instances
[Collections - ILS, IR, RDM, DA]
Probably the most practical present you get this year! Skye from our tech team has built something that has been high on the TIND admin user wish list for a long time - a list of records that lack a collection.
When a record does not have a value that adds it to a collection the record can become difficult to retrieve, as being part of a collection is what makes the record available in the search. These so-called “orphaned” records can be the result of a batch upload gone wrong or misspelling in the collection query term, and often end up getting replaced rather than found and fixed.
The new Records without collections interface allows you to filter on date and ID, limit/expand the number of results shown, and go directly from the list to the record for further inspection and action.

The list can also be used as a starting point for batch editing the records, and you can read more about this in our docs here: https://docs.tind.io/article/gmcyp57muh-records-without-a-collection-orphaned-records
[Submission Forms - IR, RDM]
For instances that are using the latest version of the Submission Forms, there are several new improvements added in this release.
For the people that set up and edit these forms, the configuration is now hugely simplified, bringing us one step closer to that user-facing form editor that you are all waiting for. Further improvements include:
larger description text
improved translation support
grouped values in dropdowns
auto-generated user list in dropdowns
[File Manager - IR, RDM, DA]
Uploading large files over unstable network connections could lead to unfinished uploads if the connection were to break while the upload was still in progress. This behaviour is now improved to ensure that the system is able to resume the upload from the same position whenever the connection is re-established, without additional intervention from the user.
This also required some improvement to the File Manager lock behaviour, fixing an issue where submitting files after leaving the File Manager open for a long time before submitting uploads, the file changes would appear successful, but the submitted changes would not actually be processed.
Now, a new lock will be enforced as long as the File Manager is left open and the files are not edited elsewhere, and whenever a broken network connection is re-established.
[General - ILS, IR, RDM, DA] If an apostrophe was present in the description meta tag, it would be double encoded in the output.
[Workflows - IR, RDM] In some instances, when deactivating a DOI with DataCIte, the DOI field would simultaneously be removed from the record.
[Author Profiles - IR, RDM] An invalid data error would display when adding external works with more than one contributor.
[Facets - IR, RDM] DataCite Data Type terms consisting of two words are no longer truncated when displaying in the facets.
[Image Viewer - DA, RDM] For instances configured to display descriptions in stead of file names in the Universal Viewer, the field will fall back to file name if there is no description instead of displaying as blank.
This section contains an overview of updates that were deployed as patch updates between this release and the previous (27.1.0).
