Welcome to release 24.0.0!

TIND 24.0.0 is a major release. Note that we have dropped the '1' in the release versioning. This release includes three new features, including improvements to export and import of metadata, OCR improvements (including handwriting recognition!) and support for uploading all files in a folder to records. 

You will also find a number of key changes and a slew of bug fixes.

New Features and Improvements

Export and Import Metadata with Readable Labels

[Metadata | DA, ILS, IR, RDM]

In TIND 24.0.0, we have introduced a new export interface with many improvements and new features, including

• New CSV export and import format with descriptive labels in place of MARC tags

• Improved OpenRefine export and import format with descriptive labels

• Customisable list of export formats

• Control of the number of records that can be exported by different user groups

• Option for authenticated users to have the export sent to their email address

Upload all Files inside a Folder to your Records

[File Management | DA, RDM]

Upload multiple files to the same record from a local directory of your repository using a FFT ("fulltext file transfer") field. Simply reference the directory in your upload file, and all files within the folder will be attached to the record.

Additionally, you can create unique descriptions for each file using a combination of text and tokens such as file name and index, meaning that you can ingest hundreds of files with a single FFT field.

Textract OCR Engine Integration, OCR Workflow Improvements & Handwriting Recognition

[File Management / DA]

In addition to ABBYY, instances with automatic optical character recognition (OCR) configured can now utilise the AWS Textract engine to create text layers on their image and PDF files. Textract supports handwritten text recognition and will automatically detect a large number of languages for an accurate result.

The OCR Credits management page has been expanded to include more information on files currently being processed by the OCR engine, as well as more detailed status information on completed transactions.

Accessibility continued

Minor changes and tweaks to following the major accessibility updates in the previous release.

Identifier checks at record creation and cloning

[General | DA, ILS, IR, RDM]
When creating new records, the system will now automatically check if there are existing records with the same DOI (0247_a) or OAI Identifier (909COo) fields. If there is, the record creation will fail.

Additionally, system-generated fields like TIND-generated DOIs (0247_), OAI fields (909CO), and file metadata fields (8564_) are now removed automatically when cloning records in the record editor.

Front page Search now includes restricted collections automatically

When searching in collections from the front page, you no longer have to manually select restricted collections to include records from these collections in your search. As long as you have access to the collection, it will be included

Display Related Items in Detail View

[Detailed View | IR, DA]

The section “Related Items” is now available in the detailed view for IR and DA records. Previously, this was only available for RDM records. This change will only be applied to instances with default display templates. If you have custom templates and would like to remove this link, please contact TIND Support.

Edit Submission link removed in Detail View

[Detailed View | IR, RDM]

As there is now a new “Edit in Form” button in the Action Bar in the Detail View, the “Edit publication in form” link will be removed from the “Submission Information” section in the Detail View. This change will only be applied to instances with default display templates. If you have custom templates and would like to remove this link, please contact TIND Support.

Add your institutional logo in the IIIF Manifest

[IIIF Manifest | DA]

It’s now possible to add a reference to a logo file in the IIIF Manifest. Displaying the logo with your manifest is supported when using IIIF services such as the Mirador Project. Note that this requires the latest version of the TIND IIIF Service. Contact TIND Support in order to include your logo in your manifest.

Display file description in video player playlist

[Detail View | DA]
The video player playlist can now be configured to display the file description in place of the file name. Contact TIND Support to change this setting.

Localisation and Translations

• Norwegian translations added to the login page

• Arabic translation of numbers of records in collections, “Narrow by collection” heading, and toggle reading direction on the fulltext toggle
  
  

Bugs and Problems Resolved

• Alerts [DA | ILS | IR | RDM] -  When modifying existing alerts, the input fields would be reset to the default values when opening in modification mode and the "Clear data"  button did not clear the entered values.

• Authorities [DA | ILS | IR | RDM] -  When clicking on an “All Resources” link in the Authorities record, the search is now changed from an exact match search to a partial phrase search.

• Background image[DA | ILS | IR | RDM] -  In certain modules, instances with a background image would have the image repeated in the bottom of the screen, obscuring text and links.

  • URLs would fail to parse the file extension correctly if a new line was present in the URL of the file

  • Errors in overlay command syntax will now be reported in the Batch Uploader simulation

  • In the Upload history log,

    • the file name would not be preserved if the browser navigation had been used in the modal prior to file ingestion.

    • the file name would be truncated if the name contained whitespaces.

    • The file name contained a placeholder path which has now been removed. Only the actual file name is now displayed.

• Detail View [DA | ILS | IR | RDM] - Double-clicking to mark a value in the Details section will now only highlight the value itself and not the label.

• Detail View [DA] - The description field ($e) in the “Related Resource” field will now display correctly
  
  
• Detail View [DA | IR | RDM] -  When clicking on the “Log in” button in the Files section in order to access a restricted file, you will now be rediected back to the record page after logging in.

• File Manager [DA | IR | RDM]

  • Files with long names would cause the upload section of the file manager to extend beyond page borders.

  • Files with names starting with “allfiles-” could not be downloaded.

• Front Page [DA | ILS | IR | RDM] - If the collection box is optionally displayed, the extended collection box will not overlap with the footer in cases where there are a large number of collections.

• IP restricted access [DA | ILS | IR | RDM]  - There was a problem with accessing and downloading files for users with access through their IP address.

• Localisation [DA | ILS | IR | RDM]  When switching language after conducting a search, the search is preserved and the user remains on the search page.

• Multi-viewer configuration [DA | ILS | IR | RDM] - Interface tweaks and minor fixes.

• PDF Thumbnails [IR | RDM]

  • When deleting a PDF file with a corresponding thumbnail, the thumbnail will be cleared and replaced with a placeholder.

  • When restricting a previously unrestricted PDF file, the thumbnail will be removed from the record.

• Record Editor [DA | ILS | IR | RDM]

  • Navigation arrows to move between records in the record editor were misaligned.

  • The record preview has been cleaned up both when using the preview button and when submitting changes.

• Record Editor [IR | RDM]  - When there are more than one PDF file attached to a record, clicking the PDF preview button will consistently open to the /files endpoint, allowing the user to select which PDF to view.

• Search [DA | ILS | IR | RDM]

  • Numeric values with decimals are now included in range searches, as long as the decimal separator is a period (.)

• Submission Forms [IR | RDM] - The “Submission in progress” page had different styling depending on the order of specific elements in the submission form.

• Universal Viewer [DA | DRM}

  • The download button in the Universal Viewer would display for files with the “View Only” status

  • The navigation arrows to move between search results are no longer disabled if there is only one file attached to the record.
