New general features, and features for IR, DA and RDM customers
New model for presenting metadata in the record page
We've worked on a new way to manage the configurations for presenting metadata in the record page.
First, we are gradually implementing a shared template model for customers. This shared template model facilitates faster and easier deployment of improvements to all customers.
- For ILS customers, we've worked on expanding the number of supported fields and making some fields more granular.
- We've also implemented support for displaying alternative scripts through linked 880 fields (Link to documentation).
- Author elements can now be configured according to which subfields to display and which subfields to include in the search link. A common scenario for this is to allow displaying an author role (subfield $e) without including that role in the search.
Second, we’ve introduced a new administration page for individual configuration of these templates.
- Suppress displaying metadata for guests or staff
- Reorder display elements
- Easily request local fields with custom labels and source metadata fields
Ability to add custom labels to metadata display (record page)
Even though most fields are global and shared among customers, some fields support local conventions by allowing for overrides of the label (see this list of display elements supporting local overrides of labels).

New configuration options for suppressing metadata fields
We've added a configuration page for setting suppressed metadata fields, which allows to easily set which fields should be inaccessible to end users.
- Suppressing fields in this page suppresses them from search, metadata exports as well as the record page and search results page
- Administer suppressed fields without submitting configuration requests through the support portal
- Allow staff access to fields, or suppress from all users
Read more about suppressing metadata fields in our documentation.
Easily find records based on access rights
You can now use an access_mode alias when searching to find records based on the access restrictions on files attached to the record.
- Search for records with restricted files, or filter away such records
- Also supports searching for embargoed files
- Can also be configured for use as a facet when searching for records
Read more about the new access rights index in our documentation.
Export records to OpenAIRE
We've added support for OpenAIRE exports based on Guidelines for Literature Repository Managers v4.
- Harvest article records into OpenAIRE
- Reach a broader audience by becoming searchable in the OpenAIRE Explore search engine
- Increase compliance with institutional open access demands
Read more about OpenAIRE exports in our documentation.
Support for thumbnails generated from PDF files for TIND DA
We've added support for rendering thumbnails generated from PDF files in the search results view for TIND DA. Regular image thumbnails take precedence over image thumbnails generated from PDF files.
Read more about this in our documentation.
New audio player
We’ve added a new audio player which will be available to most TIND DA users. For other users this feature may need to be purchased as an add-on. The audio player supports playback of MP3 files with simple track listing and seeking.
- Present your audio data directly in the record detailed view
- Works out of the box with all major browser software
- Uploaded MP3 files are automatically picked up by the audio player
Read more about the new audio player in our documentation.
New API features
We’ve added several new API features for programmatically managing records and files.
Searching and exporting bibliographic records
A new search API allows for searching and exporting of records. The API is designed with scalability in mind, and allows for efficient exports of the entire catalog.
- Provides simple API access to search
- MARCXML export option to allow exporting record metadata
- Allows to export the full set of records in any collection – even all records of the entire repository
- Authentication to control who has access to export records
Read more about the search API in our documentation.
Updating bibliographic record metadata
We’ve added a record API with support for write operations, similar to the batch uploader.
- Programmatically update records
- Create or import new records using your own scripts and tools
- Supports insert-or-replace and append mode.
Read more about the record API in our documentation.
Uploading files directly to storage infrastructure
We’ve added support for programmatically uploading files directly to the object storage infrastructure.
- Perform efficient large-scale file uploads
- Upload thousands of files without interrupting regular record update operations
- Upload files up to 5 GB, with larger file sizes possible through multi-part uploads
- Bypass manual data entry with the file manager
- Verify your uploads with checksums
- Also supports locally-managed object stores that are compatible with the S3 API
We are planning to deprecate direct uploads using SFTP in favor of this method, sometime in 2020. Read more about uploading files directly to the object storage in our documentation.
Improved thumbnail API
You can now get a URL to the thumbnail of a record through a thumbnail API.
- Supports thumbnails generated from both images and PDFs
- Supports returning the thumbnail URL as text, or redirecting the request to the URL
Read more about the thumbnail API in our documentation.
